Cocktails and Swagger. Because Someone Had Cocktails and Someone Had Swagger
With all of the rain that we have had here in Texas, I am hearing a lot of people talk about a problem that they have not had to deal with a lot this year-ants and roaches.
My family got 2 cans of Hot Shot Ant and Roach Plus Germ Killer to combat the problem that we were having.
The can is hot pink. You can't miss it. It stands out from all of the other cans. It does not smell like poison, it is noted on the can that the scent is "Fresh Floral Scent". It smells like a can of air freshener. Don't breathe it in too much, it is bug spray!
Interesting little blurb on the packaging is the Germ Killer. It says that it reduces 99.9 percent of germs that insects may leave behind. I had not even considered this before. I know that pests are filthy creatures, but this actually gave me a moment of pause. How many germs are ants and roaches bringing in a house when they come to visit? What kind of germs?
We decided to attack everywhere that we could see the ants coming in. First we swept and mopped all of the floor areas, washed and dried all rugs, vacuumed rugs and carpets after noting where we saw them entering. A line of ants was coming in under the dishwasher, so we even pulled the dishwasher, stove and refrigerator out and swept and mopped those areas, too.
After that, it was onto cabinets, including the door and drawer fronts, the counters, and the walls above the counters.
The surfaces were completely clean and ready for the spray. We sprayed all of the places that the ants were coming in at. We also sprayed under the refrigerator, the stove, the dishwasher and just outside the front door.
We then repeated this in the bathrooms in case they were coming inside to search for a drink.
I made sure that all pet bowls were put away and thoroughly washed before putting pet food and water in them, as well as moving the pets away from the area being treated for at least two hours.
Finally, a friend shared with me the use of a mixture of 1/2 boric acid and 1/2 sugar if the problem is roaches, and 1/2 baking soda, 1/2 sugar if the problem is ants. I traced the ants back to their nest and sprinkled about 2 teaspoons of the tasty mixture right near their home. They lapped it up like a cat drinking milk!
In the 2 weeks after spraying we were careful to rinse off any dishes in case there was a residue from the spray, and other than an occasional any acting very erratically (read:dying) we have not seen any of the little pests since then.
Some good habits that we picked up from this event are:
Wash dishes right after eating a smell so that you are not attracting bugs. If you are going to load the dishwasher, no matter how light or heavy the load, run it. Otherwise the food is sitting there like a buffet for ants and roaches.
Wipe down the counters, sweep the floors and at least damp mop with plain water every day. Ants leave a scent trail for other ants to track where the goodies are. Stop that by erasing their trails for one another.
Put all food away in firmly closed containers or overwrap after eating.
Clean the refrigerator by removing all food and wipe down all shelves, drawers, doors and freezer areas. They may be smelling a small taste of food that we can't see, getting supplied from there.
Clean your stove and oven all the way when you start this, and wipe it down after meals they are used for when the stove or oven has cooled back down to room temperature.
Empty all trash every night before you go to bed. Bag it and take it to the outside container.
Run the garbage disposal in the sink every evening in case there are particles of food under the blades.
Do not allow anyone to have food or food wrappers in their room. This includes in backpacks, drawers, clothing, purses, etcetera. This can be a sneaky source of food for ants and roaches.
If you see an ant or roach, watch where it is going to and from before you kill it.
Read the directions for use of the product that you decide on and follow them. Note if there are special use instructions for children, pets and those with specific health concerns.
There are many reasons to use a mobile grooming service to take care of your pets. The cost will be more than if you take the dog to a groomer, but that can be worth it.
Some of the reasons that people like to have a mobile groomer come to their house are as follows:
Costs vary for a lot of reasons, you will have to call around in your area to see what the costs are for you.
The groomer will have had experience with dogs. Ask questions. Here are some questions to ask:
What is included in the grooming? Shampoo? Conditioner? Blow dry? Nails clipped? Eye stains cleaned? Glands expressed? Each groomer is different. You will want to make sure that the items you want to be performed are.
Viewing the grooming. Some animals will only behave if their human is present. Others will only behave if their owner is absent. Finally, there are some dogs that don't care. Ask the groomer what their preferences are and make sure that they are a match.
Shots and vaccinations.
Almost every single groomer that I have talked to strongly prefers (at the least) and demands it in most cases for your animals to be up to date on the shots that are required in your area. Make sure that you find out what those shots are and be prepared to have a certificate or other proof from your vet. In some cases, the groomer needs to see this for insurance purposes. In others, it is a personal preference.
Knowing if your dog is a biter, a nipper or anything similar. Be honest. Is your dog a biter? A nipper? Do they growl over their food bowl? Do they growl towards stranger dogs or humans? Let the groomer know so that they can decide whether to take your dog as a client or decline, and whether or not they should bring a muzzle to protect themselves and the dog from injuries.
Ask for references, look at the website if there is one, and check out the BBB and similar for complaints, but generally speaking, most small single person groomers may not have these resources.
Ask about insurance in case the animal is hurt or injured, or what happens if the dog bites or nips if s/he is a nipper. It is better to know these things ahead of time rather than find them out in a courtroom.
A groomer can be a wonderful decision that allows your dog or other pet to remain in the comfort of their own home, lessens their stress and allows their toes to remain trimmed and their coat to be cut/trimmed/shampooed and more. It allows you the ability to get something else done in that time if you choose, or to make it a special time between you and your dog.
Yalmeh Glory Eye Bright Gel Brightening Eye Cream review.
I received a full size product in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. All opinions expressed here, whether positive, neutral or negative are my own.
The box and packaging of this are stunningly beautiful. It reminds me of when I was in Paris at a very fancy beauty boutique, where fancy ladies in lab coats and long white aprons would look at your skin through a magnifying glass and make referrals for your unique skin conditions.
The level of the Yalmeh Glory Eye Bright Gel is what you would expect from a boutique like that. A beautiful box with a water color on the front and a gorgeous chrome lid attached to a serene blue tube.
I dropped this into the refrigerator when it arrived as I have noted that using cool gels on the face is a lot more soothing than room temperature.
The first evening that I used it, I was delighted at the way it felt. Of course, it was cool, from being in the refrigerator, but it was soothing as well.
The gel is amazing. Loaded with Hyaluronic acid, plant stem cells, and the best part? No animal testing was done on this product. It is a lovely product that will make a nice part of your beauty regime or as a gift for someone else.
I am a products girl. I love trying out new products, and I love telling other people about the good, the bad and the effective. I have been wanting to try some of the vitamin C serums for a long time.
The Sano Naturals was a great fit for me. It is a natural product, which is something I like.
When they arrived, I immediately washed my face and started to apply the product.
The Sano Naturals Vitamin C Serum + High Potency Formula Daily Skin Revitalizer comes in a cobalt blue glass bottle with a dropper top. I applied it in the morning with no additional product. I noticed that it soaks into the skin very quickly. Extremely quickly. That was nice, especially if you are going to be doing makeup and are pushed for time. The ingredients list is good, and the product is made in the United States.
After the first day of use, I noticed that my skin started to appear firmer. That's nice! After a couple of days, I noticed that my skin was looking a lot brighter. Also nice. However, I also noticed that this is a bit drying. I now mix my serum with my face moisturizer and that issue has been resolved. I like this product a lot.
The second item that I reviewed is the Sano Naturals Vitamin C Eye Gel + Concentrated Formula with Silk Peptides. Here is where things get a little confusing. There is no ingredients list on the packaging. That would be nice, so that those who have allergies can check it out and see if they are safe. The next part is the instructions. This is marketed as an eye gel product. The instructions, however are confusing. It reads as follows: Use: Dab around eyes, forehead, and cheek areas daily. Um, eye gel? I think you are confused about where you go! I use it on my eye area and I like this product a lot. Again, had to use my moisturizer because I noticed that there was a bit of dry skin, but from what I am reading, this is common with Vitamin C products.
Overall, I like how soft my skin feels. I like the firming action. I like the blue bottle and little blue tub that the eye gel came in. This is a solidly good product.
Tired? Skin a mess? Looking older? Green Tea has been shown to help the signs of aging, boost energy, increase caloric burn and more. A very powerful antioxidant, green tea is showing up in everything from supplements to gum.
I visited China a few years ago and it was life changing. My friend M. urged me to come along with her on a trip. "It'll be fun! We will see everything!" Luckily, M is also a native speaker of Chinese.
I decided to go. How awesome was it? I want to go again.
While in China, M insisted that we go to a tea garden. Boring! I shouted. She insisted. Luckily, I went. It was unlike anything I had ever been to. "Shrubs" for as far as you could see. These were the tea plants. Workers carefully pulled the newest leaves off, hand pinching them with gloved fingers so that they did not contaminate the leaves with oil from their fingers.
We went past the workers, walking up a steep hill with beautiful little buildings set out alone in the middle of the fields, each with small tables.
"What are those?" I asked.
"Tea Houses." M replied, walking along the hill with me. "Don't worry. You will see them again later." She said as we went into a large building.
I learned the history of tea. How it is grown. The different names for tea all over the world. How precious it is. The health values of teas. The ceremony of tea. As Westerners, we want instant gratification. Boil the water. Pour over tea bag. Let sit for a minute. Add milk or cream or something. Drink. Forget about it.
That is not how tea is done in the rest of the world. In fact, not all tea is meant to be consumed from boiling the water. Matcha tea is one of those. It is a delicate tea. Remember, it is made from the youngest leaves and leaf buds. Boiling water is said to "scald" and ruin the tea. In China, they brought out a tiny porcelain dish with an impressive lid. Lifting it, there was a finely ground powder. It was a pretty green that was the color of spring. "Matcha" our host said as he held the container up. "The stronger the smell, the better the matcha. What you are smelling is life. Matcha is so full of life. Every cell in your body will absorb the matcha."
He passed the container around, and we all could smell the matcha. It is a memorable smell. It smelled like the concentrate of the tea fields that we had passed.
A glass of hot water was poured and our host took his finger and dipped it into the bowl. A small amount of matcha stuck to it. He dipped his finger into the glass, and the water turned a pale green, the color of green tea.
"You cannot drink matcha like that. First, you prepare your mouth to receive the matcha. We serve a rice cake that is sweetened to prepare your mouth. The matcha has no sweetness. It is pure. Sugar would compromise the matcha. So you eat a sweet before."
As he spoke, a woman walked in with a beautiful cloisonne tray, laden down with cups and saucers and little bowls. In each bowl was a sweet rice cake, shaped to look like lotus flowers in bud form.
She set down a cup and saucer in front of each of us. Then the rice cake, in a green bowl so that it appeared like the lotus was in its' natural habitat.
As she did, the gentleman went to each of our cups and added less than a half teaspoon of matcha to our cups. When this was done, he poured the hot water from the tea pot and the water turned beautifully green.
"Use your spoon and mix the matcha with the water. Look at the setting and enjoy it. Eat your rice cake and then drink your matcha all the way gone. That is how to do it." He motioned the cup to the mouth, tipping it all the way back.
I ate the rice cake, it was very sweet, and very pretty. I hated to destroy the artists' work, but it had to be done. Then, I tipped the match cup to my mouth and drank it all gone. It was delightful. Others tried to take a bite, drink, take a bite, drink. Our host was having none of that. "No! You cannot prepare your mouth like that! All cake then all tea!" We laughed, and the rebels quickly did as they were told.
I was sold. The flavor was gentle, with a subtle sweetness from the rice cake. During the rest of the visit, I noticed that the jet lag I had been suffering from was now gone. Not instantly. It just faded away.
I was offered the chance to review Kiss Me Organics matcha in exchange for my honest opinion of their product. When it arrived, I was delighted at the flat pack foil packaging. Anything that takes less space in the pantry is something I love. The easy pull open package was also great, no need to grab scissors. The resealable top means that I can take it on a trip as well.
Opening this bag, it was like I was in China at the tea fields all over again. I was so happy to think about the time that M and I were in China. It smelled exactly like the matcha I had in China. It looked exactly like the matcha I had in China!
As soon as this arrived, I put the kettle on and got a cup ready. I did not have a rice cake, but I did have oatmeal cookies. I set a cookie on a plate and prepared my cup and saucer. Dipping into the bag, I spooned out less than half a teaspoon into my cup.
The kettle was steaming, but not yet boiling, which is what you want for matcha. I poured my water and stirred. There was the beautiful transformation that I remembered from China. I ate my oatmeal cookie. Drank the matcha all at once, like in China. It was wonderful. It was a time machine in a cup.
There are many other uses for matcha. You can cook with it. You can make smoothies with it. You can make iced beverages with it. Matcha can be stirred into things, such as yogurts and oatmeal. I have a friend that showed me how she mixes it into spaghetti sauce to cut the sweetness of the sauce.
Yesterday, I made pumpkin muffins. I added matcha to the white frosting to cut the sweetness and tint it a beautiful green. I don't need to share with my family that they were getting healthy, do I?
Matcha is also amazing as a face mask. You don't need a lot. Less than a teaspoon. Add the matcha to milk, yogurt or an egg. Leave on for about a minute or so if you are impatient like I am. Rinse off and wash face well. Follow up with your favorite moisturizer.
Did you know that you can take a matcha bath? Yes, you can. I added 1 tablespoon of matcha and one cup of Epsom salt to the water. My skin felt so nice afterwards.
If you have not tried matcha, please do. It is a great product filled with benefits for your body.
You can go to the Kiss Me Organics page and sign up for coupons, too!
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
Want to Smell Like Summer At The Beach?I was at Five Below to get a present for my cousin. She wanted some color change nail polish. I had an email from Five Below, so I decided to go over there and get her the nail polish. I didn't get the nail polish because I was overwhelmed at all of the choices.
Shopper Alert! I am in love.
Looking at all of the stuff, I can see why this company is doing really well. Their stock is really well thought out with a nice selection.
I like to try before I really buy, so when I saw the NYM line, I grabbed every sample that they had.
The Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray is so incredible. It is like summer in a can. Seriously. I spray a little and every spring or summer at a beach comes flooding back. I love using this for the scent alone.
Guess what? It works.
My hair looks like I have been to the beach all day. I spray it on damp hair. I play with the curls to get them where I want them. I spray a couple more times. Blow dry a little more. Hair spray it in place. Done until I wash it out.
People will ask me when I use this what perfume I am wearing. I tell them that it is the spray. I have had to write down the name of this product more than 10 times now. It is that memorable.
Since I bought that little travel bottle, I have now purchased the full size. Twice. I have really long hair, and when I go out, I want it to look nice. Using this product, my hair looks exactly the way it looks after a day at the beach-great volume, loads of curls.
The great thing about this spray is that it washes out really easily. I don't have to wash a couple of times to get it out.
Another great thing is that even though it is sea salt, it does not dry out my hair. I really like that, too.
I learned yesterday that the NYM line also makes a texturizing hair cream with the sea salt and a lot more products than I was aware of. All of their products are less than $6.00, so they are really affordable, too.
If you have not tried this line, it is worth a look.
